With a growing discography and a dedication to his creative evolution, Alden Song recently returned with his latest Tech House release, ‘Take Me,’ bringing his signature blend of groove-heavy basslines, melodic elements, and infectious energy to offer a track showcasing his distinct style and approach. In this behind-the-scenes interview, Alden takes us through the production process, the influences behind the track, and his journey to crafting its unique elements. From teasing ‘Take Me’ in live sets to experimenting with new approaches, Alden offers a closer look at how this release came together and what lies ahead.

Hi Alden, how’s it going? Congrats on the release of ‘Take Me’!

Hi guys, thank you! Great to be here.

From first starting ‘Take Me,’ how did the initial concept evolve as you worked on building the track?

From the beginning of the production, I wanted to create a track with vocals in the drop. Something people could sing during the chorus. I also liked the idea of a call and response, so you can hear the vocal dancing with the synth stabs in the drop. All these ideas flowed into the arrangement of the track and I’m very happy with the result!

The track features a bouncy, groove-laden bassline. How did you design this bassline, and what role does it play in setting the tone of the production?

I used Diva which is one of my favorite plug-in synths to use. I created the bass preset you hear in the song and created the bassline around the drums and percussive elements. I believe the relationship between the drums and the bassline is very important, because in House music this establishes the groove.

What elements of the track do you feel are most representative of your signature style, and why?

I’m not exactly sure haha. But I think there might be a couple elements that make my music sound like me. I love programming drums and in this track the groove satisfies me. I also think the melodic elements mixed with the driving bassline are also very “me”.

The track keeps high energy throughout. How did you approach maintaining this momentum in ‘Take Me’?

I always build out the first drop of the song. Once it’s time to move on to the second drop, I like to make a longer, more suspenseful build up. The drop in this portion usually has more added such as a small fake out and rides.

Have you had a chance to incorporate ‘Take Me’ into your live DJ sets yet? If so, how has the feedback been from the crowd?

I teased the song a bunch before it was released, and the feedback was very positive! Playing ‘Take Me’ in my sets is always so much fun, and it’s great to see the crowd dance to it.

Do you have any go-to techniques that you tend to use in each of your productions?

I always love automating things like reverbs and delays on different aspects of the song. Even though it’s the same sound, by affecting the “space” in which it lives during certain parts of the song can make it sound different to your ear.

How would you say your background influences your creative choices when producing tracks like ‘Take Me’?

I come from a household where House music was played all the time. So, there’s a lot of classic House influence in my tracks. I like meshing modern sounds with retro sounds, and it creates a familiar yet exciting twist on the genre.

What aspect of this new track are you most proud of?

I took a different approach when it came to writing this song. I explained earlier how I chose for the vocal to be in the drop like a chorus. As well as having a call and response between the vocal and the synth stab. I’m most proud of this aspect because it pushed me out of my comfort zone when it came to writing.
