Interview With GRLSKOUT Exploring Her New Sound

How would you describe your sound?

Last summer I did a small tour and played all over Greece, Turkey and Dubai. It was an unreal experience and I came back super inspired. I fell in love with Melodic Techno and have been changing up my sets these last 6 months and going more towards that direction. Europe is another world. I was actually born in Poland so electronic music has always been a part of me and always will be.

In what ways do you think technology has influenced the art of DJing and music production?

Technology definitely has had a profound impact on DJing and music production. So much has changed over the last ten years. The fact that you can put your whole music library on a little USB stick and just show up to a gig and plug that in still blows my mind how lucky we are. Also regarding music production the fact that we have so many incredible soft synths and plugins that replicate analog gear at a much cheaper and affordable rate lets artists have endless opportunities creating in the studio. I love that I can produce music anywhere I go. One of my favorite things to do is produce music at airports or hotels in different cities when I have an out of town gig. I get inspired by traveling, nature and different locations.

How do you approach remixing or reimagining tracks, and what do you enjoy most about that process?

I love remixing because you get to take a track and make it something completely different. Sometimes taking a track that’s not the greatest but revamping it is always very satisfying. As of my approach and process I only like to use the vocal and completely rebuild the whole track from scratch. I rarely use any other parts from the original.

Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you’re excited about that you can share with us?

I am playing with Loud Luxury this month which is very exciting and also preparing my set already for Beyond Wonderland Festival next month. Producing a bunch of new fresh edits that I can’t wait to share with everyone in my upcoming live set.

What advice do you have for aspiring DJs looking to break into the music industry?

Honestly play as many gigs as you can, produce music every single day and develop great relationships with people in the music industry. Always give back and be kind, polite and easy to work with. I promise you it speaks volumes and will pay off. You have to live and breathe music if you wanna be successful doing it. It eventually will all come together when your time is right and I promise it’s all worth the hard work.

How do you see the future of DJing and electronic music evolving in the coming years?

Honestly with how fast paced this industry already is, I have not clue what’s next haha. But I am always ready for what’s to come.

Any recent mixes you would like us to check out?
