Underground agenda-setting label Boogeyman is back with a new EP series. ‘Boogeydown Vol. 1’ kicks off with a trio of killer remixes by label founder Jesse Calosso who reworks tunes by The Mekanism, Tommy Vercetti and Kellie Allen.
Up first is Calosso‘s remix of The Mekanism‘s ‘What Is It’ feat. Jadhe. It’s a tight, vibrant mix of minimal drum funk and slick percussion with a ghetto vocal edge and plenty of swagger. Then the Miami mainstay turns his hand to Tommy Vercetti‘s ‘Where You Wanna Be’ feat Owen William. He lays down chunky drums with deft chords that bring the soul. The drums are deep and the vocal is aloof and intimate for late night feels. Last up, he remixes Kellie Allen‘s ‘What You Gon’ Do’ which is another superbly deep but dynamic cut with balmy pads and well worked vocal stabs under the vamping chords that bring the heat.
‘Boogeydown Vol. 1’ is a great showcase of Calosso‘s remixing skills and stylish sound.
