The Art of Light Connects Orchestra, Film and Story for Outlander in Concert

Andre Beekmans and The Art of Light Bring a Cinematic Approach to Outlander in Concert

Few television worlds arrive without expectations already attached to them. Outlander, adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s internationally known novel series, has spent more than a decade building a distinct identity on screen—one shaped by history, landscape, character and a musical language that has become inseparable from the series itself.

Now, that world is moving from the screen to the concert stage.

Outlander in Concert – Echoes Through the Highlands brings together a live orchestra and vocalists performing Bear McCreary’s score with cinematic highlights spanning all eight seasons of the television series. Translating that material into a live production requires more than placing familiar scenes and music in a new setting. The visual environment must respond to a story and atmosphere audiences already recognize.

For Andre Beekmans and The Art of Light, that responsibility centered on light.

The Art of Light designed the production’s complete lighting setup and programmed the entire two-hour performance to timecode, establishing a visual framework capable of moving alongside the score, cinematic material and live performers throughout the show.

Beekmans’ involvement extended directly into the premiere. While operating the show himself, he fine-tuned the programming to emphasize individual solos throughout the performance, adjusting the programmed design as the production made the transition from preparation to a live audience.

His responsibility did not end after opening night. Beekmans also developed the handover for the lighting operator taking Outlander in Concert on tour, allowing the visual structure established during the premiere to remain consistent as the production moves between venues and international markets.

That combination of design, programming, live operation and touring preparation makes Outlander in Concert a particularly revealing example of how Beekmans and The Art of Light approach large-scale production. The work is not limited to how a show looks in a single venue; it also requires building a system that can preserve its creative identity once the original designer is no longer behind the console.

Outlander in Concert is currently touring across the United States through December 12. In early 2027, the production is scheduled to continue through the United Kingdom and Europe before traveling to Australia in April.

For Beekmans, the project adds another international production to a body of work increasingly spanning music, live entertainment and established global entertainment properties. For The Art of Light, it demonstrates how lighting design can become part of the connective tissue between an existing screen world and the new experience created when that world reaches a live stage.

As Outlander in Concert continues its international run, audiences across several continents will experience a production whose lighting was developed not simply for its premiere, but with the demands of an international tour already built into its design.
